Differences Between Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet Versions
Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet are two of the games released in 2022 where players get to explore a wide and vast environment. While the two games are almost the same, there are certain differences that may influence your choice. Each game has a different professor, different legendary Pokémon that players can catch and ride, and Pokémon that can only be found in that version. Many of these differences are connected to the availability of Pokémon, and some graphics.
Here is a comparison of these key differences to help you make a decision about which game to play.
Pokémon Version Differences
You can choose which game to purchase based on the main Pokémon featured in each version. In the Pokémon Scarlet, the main Pokémon is Koraidon, which has a very fierce and old look like a dinosaur. It has four limbs and is strong in melee combat. Also, Koraidon is a Dragon and Fighting type of Pokémon.
In Pokémon Violet, the main Pokémon is Miraidon, which looks sleek and futuristic with jet engines. It is better in special attacks and is an Electric and Dragon-type Pokémon. These differences can assist you in determining which version is most suitable for you.
Game Color Differences
The colors are very important in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet. At the beginning of the game, you are a student at a Pokémon academy in the Paldea Region. Depending on whether you are playing as Scarlet or Violet, the academy and the clothes your character wears will appear different. In Scarlet, you go to Naranja Academy where the entire school is orange-colored. In Violet, it is Uva Academy, which has purple and darker colors because its mascot is a grape.
These color differences can even be seen in the Pokémon themselves in each of the games. For instance, Koraidon in Scarlet looks red hot while Miraidon in Violet has a deep purple hue to it. This color choice is seen in other Pokémon in the games such as Characadet’s various forms, where Scarlet’s red shades are highlighted and Violet’s purple hue.
Initial Professors in Scarlet / Violet
In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, the start of the game is quite distinct depending on which version you are in. In Scarlet, you first encounter Professor Sada, who appears rough and unkempt, which is appropriate for the game’s theme of the past and antiquity. On the other hand, in Violet, you meet Professor Turo who looks neat and modern with short hair and a shaved head, which reflects the futurism of the game. Although it does not alter much of the basic plot, the designs of the two characters are great contributions to the time-traveling theme present in the game.
Special Pokémon in Each Version
Apart from changing characters’ appearance and the story of the game, both Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet have their exclusive Pokémon that cannot be found in the other game. However, Scarlet and Violet take this concept even further by providing new forms of Pokémon as native to their regions. For instance, some Pokémon have different evolution methods or forms when playing Scarlet or Violet. This brings some sort of appeal and makes it fun to explore each version of the game because there are different Pokémon that you can catch in each one.
Apparel Differences in Pokémon Versions
In Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet, the differences between the two versions are mostly about how the characters look. In Scarlet, the main character and the academy director have most of their apparel as bright oranges. In Violet, they wear some dark blue attire. Interestingly, the evil Team Star also belongs to these colors. These differences in looks let you distinguish between the versions. However, they do not impact the overall plot and gaming experience.
Scarlet & Violet Additions
In the Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet games, there’s an expansion called the Indigo Disk that introduces two new special Pokémon – Raging Bolt and Iron Crown.
Raging Bolt is only in Scarlet and its design looks like an older form of Raikou. It is a dragon and electric type. Also, it has a move called Thunderclap that inflicts damage if the enemy is going to attack before, but if the enemy is not, the move does not work.
Iron Crown is unique to Violet and appears to be the future version of Cobalion. It’s a Steel / Psychic type. It has a move called Tachyon Cutter which never misses and strikes consecutively. These Pokémon bring new abilities and gameplay options to each game, making a player’s experience varied depending on the game version.
